"Chrysopylae" Black and White Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco The title is in reference to Captain John C. Freemont's original naming of the Golden Gate strait in 1848. Chrysopylae is Greek for Golden Gate. People often ask why the Golden Gate Bridge is named like it is when the bridge's color is actually red and this is why.
